Celebrating 35 years of Spielberg’s Raiders of The Lost Ark

This year is the 35th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. If you’ve seen it, you’ll undoubtedly remember the ‘snake-pit’ scene where Marion Ravenwood squirms under a scatter of slithering snakes.

And if you know Steve, you’ll certainly know that, due to actress Karen Allen’s fear of snakes and following Spielberg’s personal plea to Steve, he transformed into Marion (dress and all!) and stepped calf deep into the serpent pit beside Indiana Jones.

It’s been almost four decades since the film’s release. To commemorate, the New York Daily News called Steve asking to do a piece on his famous cinematic debut. They wanted the anniversary article to have a twist, and what better scene to discuss than one involving snakes?
